The Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with Llantwit Major Town Council commissioned Studio Myco to prepare a Placemaking Plan for the town of Llantwit Major, Wales. The town has rich natural, built, and cultural heritage, including a beach and scenic coastal walks connecting to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Wales Coast Path, as well as being the cradle of Celtic Christianity.

Shaping a sustainable future for Llantwit Major through heritage, community, and placemaking.

Extensive community engagement, including surveys, workshops, and site visits, shaped the plan to reflect local aspirations. Research and consultation identified three strategic themes and four key opportunity areas to guide future placemaking initiatives. A shared vision and action plan were developed, detailing objectives and transformative projects to enhance the town. Finally, the plan serves as a foundation for investment, funding, and collaboration among public, private, and community partners to bring this vision to life.

Through in-depth research and stakeholder engagement, we developed a Plan that aligns with the Placemaking Wales Charter, which promotes the following 6 principles in planning sustainable and successful places: People and Community, Location, Movement, Mix of uses, Public Realm, and Identity.

The plan for Llantwit Major outlines a vision for a sustainable, community-driven future through five key chapters. It begins with an analysis of the town’s history, character, policies, and regeneration initiatives, structured around the Placemaking Wales Charter.
